Buttery Jam Tarts

                                       

Ingredients:

  • 2, 1/2 cups of white flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 tbsp. of milk
  • 1, 1/2 tsp. almond extract

Combine above ingredients in a large bowl or electric mixer on low speed.  Roll out dough to about 1/8 inch thickness and cut with favorite cookie cutter, (Sharon used a heart shaped cutter and so do I).  

Place 1/2 of the cookies on an ungreased baking pan.  Add a dab of cherry preserves to the center of each cookie.  Cut the remaining cookies with an X in the center and place over the jam cookies.  Carefully press sides a bit to secure them and sprinkle them with a bit of course sugar or red colored sugar and bake at 350 degrees for 11 to 13 min.  

These cookies are simply delicious!
